Lecturing with colleague Barbara McClung on Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad at the Queens Historical Society.

DEVORAH TARROW is an Aesthetic Realism consultant on the faculty of the Aesthetic Realism Foundation, and a sociologist.  For over 38 years, with her colleagues, she has given Aesthetic Realism consultations, and she’s conducted public seminars about women’s issues, including on such subjects as "What Stops Women from Liking Themselves?," “Independence & Need in a Woman’s Life--Can They Ever Make Sense?," "Is Honesty Possible in Love--and Romantic?"

Devorah began her study of Aesthetic Realism with its founder, Eli Siegel, in 1968, the American poet and critic.  It was in his classes, in which he lectured on all the arts and sciences, including on the works of Charles Dickens, that she began to love that great novelist.  She continues to study in professional classes taught by the Chairman of Aesthetic Realism, Ellen Reiss. Her BA is from the New School and she has an MA in sociology from New York University.  She has had numerous articles published in the international periodical The Right of Aesthetic Realism to Be Known, and in newspapers throughout the US, including: "The Study of Contempt: The One Solution to Racism," and "Contempt Causes Economic Distress."

Devorah is an authority on the history of women in the labor movement, having written and spoken on such leaders as Rose Schneiderman, organizer of the first women’s local of the United Cloth Hat and Cap Makers; Leonora O’Reilly, one of the first organizers of women for the United Garment Workers of America; and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn of the IWW.

She is a lecturer on Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, having given presentations at historical societies, libraries, and for schoolchildren.   And, in the groundbreaking art talks presented at the Terrain Gallery and the Flushing Library titled “Art Answers the Questions of Your Life!” she has lectured on such artists as Picasso and Leger.

Devorah was born in San Antonio, TX, in 1947.  She is married to Aesthetic Realism consultant Jeffrey Carduner and they live in New York City’s Greenwich Village.

The Dickens Fellowship of New York and its members seek to keep the memory and study of Charles Dickens alive in New York City. The organization has aspects of a literary society or book club but includes much more as the name Fellowship implies. Our meetings include social events and group outings.  Members are kept apprised of cultural programs in New York City and the tri-state area that relate to Dickens and his Victorian era. Although we meet all the year round, as befitting Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol, the Christmas season finds the Fellowship in especially hearty spirits.
