Welcome to our monthly meetings for 107 years and going strong: Saturdays 1 – 4 PM at the BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSTORE at 86th & Lexington Ave, 150 East 86th Street, New York, NY 10028. Just steps from the 86th Street subway station (4, 5, 6 trains). Events space – lower level.

It is the Dickens Fellowship policy (worldwide) to select a Dickens work for the year to read/discuss. Our latest choice is Oliver Twist. It was Charles Dickens’ 2nd novel serialized in 1837 after The Pickwick Papers.  Oliver Twist is the famous story of a young boy’s extraordinary adventures in the streets of London. Until he is nine, Oliver spends his life in a workhouse orphanage. When he runs away to London he falls into the company of young

pickpockets. His future looks uncertain until a mysterious plot against him is unraveled by the kindness of one man.

Each meeting also has readings, films, special events: all relevant to the Life and times (Victorian) of Dickens.

Try to read the assigned chapters in advance of the meeting. You can also read, share, discuss, passages you found very interesting.

Meetings 2011

The Dickens Fellowship of New York and its members seek to keep the memory and study of Charles Dickens alive in New York City. The organization has aspects of a literary society or book club but includes much more as the name Fellowship implies. Our meetings include social events and group outings.  Members are kept apprised of cultural programs in New York City and the tri-state area that relate to Dickens and his Victorian era. Although we meet all the year round, as befitting Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol, the Christmas season finds the Fellowship in especially hearty spirits.
